There’s nothing quite like a goose hunt with good friends, talented guides, and a field full of anticipation.

This past weekend, the boys from Nature Tracks headed out for an early wake-up with our favourite outfitters, La Cache Outfitters. Climbing into the blinds before sunrise, we quickly realized the geese had other plans — massive flocks were sitting comfortably on the river, just 1.5 km in front of us, refusing to move.

So we waited. Patiently. Quietly. And with plenty of laughs to keep spirits high.

Around 10:30 AM, the river finally came alive. The flocks lifted, circled, and pushed into the fields — and suddenly it was off to the races. Birds were cupped up and dropping straight into the spread.

One of the highlights of the day was training with the next generation: Léopold, a 9-year-old up-and-coming guide already calling birds like a pro, mentored by his senior guide Brian, who’s helping shape his future behind the call. Watching them work together from the blind was inspiring — proof that passion for the hunt runs deep.

We also put our own gear to the test — backpacks, duffels, and shotgun cases from Nature Tracks were pushed through mud, rain, and movement from blind to blind. Field testing like this is where true durability shows.

Lessons Learned

We were reminded how important shell velocity is. The 1450 FPS shells we started with had us watching geese fly away untouched unless they were practically on top of us. But switching to 1700 FPS high-velocity 3½" shells changed everything — shooting became effortless, and it literally saved us from being skunked. We downed just enough birds to stock the freezers again.

A Huge Thank You

The crew at La Cache went above and beyond — helping process birds after the hunt and giving us a tour of their incredible barndominium lodge, a warm and welcoming base camp for hunters. Next time we’re not just hunting — we’re staying over.

Great people, great memories, and some new friends we can’t wait to see again.

We’ll be back soon — and until then, enjoy a few photos from the adventure below 👇
